Alex Mitchell's journey into the world of art started on the subway, as many New York stories do. "I was on the escalator coming up from the grime of the Path train and suddenly I found myself under the ribs of the Occulus, all white and dream-like. It was like going from hell into heaven. I looked down and saw that someone had dropped a big, heavy book on Storaro. It was like a gift from the Gods. I immediately went home and started ripping out the pages, cutting and pasting and two days later the 'Sex, War And The Devil crucifix was born.
Born in Toronto in the 50's, moved to Florida in the 70's then to NYC in the 80's where his hard rock band Circus Of Power got signed, Alex moved to California in the 90's and then returned to NYC in 2026.
"I've always had one foot in the art world, designing our album covers and hand drawn flyers, but never took the deep dive until July of 26 when it seemed like divine intervention stepped in, ha ha! I didn't set any parameters but knew that I wanted the work to be straight up pop, like Batman from the 60's met The Godfather in the 70's. Bright colors and deep sepia tones. There would be nothing new about where the ideas came from- love, sex, death, war, religion, space travel, music, human rights, the celebration of life etc but I wanted to give it a fresh vibe, a fresh look, do something that I hadn't seen before."
